How to become a member of District #6 Federal Credit Union
If you are eligible to join District #6 Federal Credit Union (check out our Membership Eligibility Page), membership begins with a share (savings) account. All it takes is a $25.00 minimum deposit, but then it can grow to so much more!
The Credit Union will require a copy of an unexpired government-issued id evidencing nationality or residence and bearing a photograph, such as a driver’s license or passport. This is to ensure your safety as well as the safety of the Credit Union.
Speaking of safe… your money is every bit as safe as in banks. All credit unions in New York State are federally insured. The shares in NYS credit unions are insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), an arm of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), which is a United States Government entity. The type of insurance on member’s accounts is somewhat similar to the insurance provided by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Members’ share accounts in any credit union located in NYS are federally insured up to $250,000.00!
